Southern DC3 Trust

What is the aim of the trust?

The Southern DC3 Trust has been formed to raise NZD$500,000 to purchase the DC3 aircraft AMY and then to preserve and maintain her as a ‘young’ example of the classic DC3 type— a fully operational working example for the enjoyment of future generations of New Zealanders.

Where will the aircraft be during the year?

When she is not engaged in income earning activities the aircraft will be stationed in Mid Canterbury at the Ashburton Aviation Museum, where a purpose-built hangar is to be built to house AMY.

How will the aircraft operate?

A separate company called Southern DC3 Limited will be formed. This is the operational company that will hold the Air Operating Certificate. SDC3 Ltd will provide the services to operate AMY.

How will AMY earn income?

To enable her to continue operating AMY will earn income through private air charters, private air tours, air shows, ‘barnstorming’ joyrides, scenic flights and commercial work on advertisements and movies. The trust also intends to make the aircraft available to schools for aviation education purposes.

What about spare parts?

As part of the sale & purchase agreement, the vendor is providing a comprehensive inventory of spares collected over the last 15 years. In addition, worldwide there is an ample stock of DC3 spares available.

What kind of donation can I make?

All donations, large or small, are welcomed by the trust. Aside from achieving the purchase of the aircraft, our goal is to gain your participation in this exciting venture!

All donors will receive a certificate of membership suitable for framing.Donors of $5,000 or more will receive a scale model of AMY bearing a plaque displaying their name.

Donors of $10,000 or more will sponsor one of the 28 seats aboard the aircraft, a plaque bearing their name will be mounted on their seat.
